All students in my class are held to high standards for personal responsibility and accountability. I will work with students all year to help them become more independent and responsible (i.e. homework, cubby, desk, etc.). Good manners and respect for all members of our community are expected and reinforced. Thank you for your continued support in placing academics before extra curricular activities!
Responsive Classroom-
I have adopted a positive form of discipline that holds students accountable, and focuses on combining social skills and academic skills. You will probably hear a lot about "Morning Meeting" from your child, which will be an exciting and challenging piece of our day. Communication skills are a major focus of these meetings. This program has been researched, and I have received extensive training on Responsive Classroom. It is shown to improve academics, greatly reduces bullying behaviors, and increases school attendance. We are building our community everyday, and respect is our main theme. We have energizers in the day to give students an opportunity for movement breaks. At the end of the day before specialist we have a "Closing Meeting" to review the day, share likes, address questions/concerns, and to go over homework and school news/events.
